MS Dhoni the ‘greatest finisher of all time’, he’ll continue to evolve at 42 says Mike Hussey

Dhoni has one of the best strike rates in the IPL 2024 season. He has scored 87 runs from just 34 balls. 76 of his 87 runs have come in the form of boundaries.

What separates MS Dhoni from the others? Why does he continue to excel despite being 42? Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach, Mike Hussey, has revealed the reason behind the legendary wicketkeeper batter’s success. Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2019, has found ways to succeed in the IPL despite being inactive for the rest of the year.

MS Dhoni loves the thrill of a challenge

The reason behind his flourishing in the most challenging franchise league in the world is his wish to evolve. Hussey revealed that Dhoni loves the challenge. Bowlers try to outsmart him, but that’s where he thrives.

He takes them on, finding new ways of dealing with them, and comes out on top. The fact that he still does it at 42 and continues to be one of the best T20 finishers in the world is what makes MS Dhoni successful.

“He’s practiced and prepared really well coming into the tournament. Of course, bowlers are coming up with different plans against him because he’s probably the greatest finisher of all time.” Mike Hussey said.

“They (bowlers) need to come up with different ideas. So that’s one of the wonderful things about MS (Dhoni). He’ll continue to evolve and continue even at this stage of his career to make himself better and make it harder for the bowlers to bowl to him,” he added.

The last dance for MS Dhoni?

Hussey also opened up about where Dhoni is at the moment. With five titles in his bag, the wicketkeeper has already handed the leadership of the Chennai Super Kings to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni has nothing left to prove; at the moment, he is enjoying his cricket as best he can.

“He’s just in a wonderful place in his career. He’s at a place where he’s comfortable; he’s happy, enjoying his cricket,” Hussey said.
