Mumbai Indians have a decision to make when they take on Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday. The MI management have to take on call on whether to play Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara in their team. MI have been facing bowling woes with their bowlers giving away too many runs. Thushara can be the answer to MI’s troubles.
Thushara can be a solution
Thushara, much like Lasith Malinga, bowls with a sling action. Son of a construction worker, the 29-year-old Thushara started playing serious cricket a bit late. He made his First-Class debut in 2015 and his slinging action bagged a lot of limelight. He was bought by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 4.80 crore in the mini auction.
Thushara has not played a game yet in IPL 2024. However, he has proved he can be handy option in T20s. He was on a roll in the Lankan Premier League. Taking 11 wickets in 7 games, he finished as Jaffna Kings’s highest wicket-taker. He was effective in the SA20 too, taking 8 wickets in 5 matches for MI Cape Town.

MI’s bowling woes
Mumbai Indians having been facing issues with their bowling. The likes of Gerald Coetzee and Akash Madhwal have been taken to the cleaners by opposition bowlers more often than not. Even Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have not been able to stem the flow of runs. In such a situation, Thushara can be a good option for the MI to try. MI are 7th in the IPL Points Table, having won 3 of their 7 matches. They need to be brave in order to stay in the race for the playoffs. Thushara can turn out be the x-factor, but they have to be brave enough to play him first.
