DRS, April 21: Australia’s day out in Delhi ft. Travis Head, McGurk and resurgence of bowlers

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life

It was raining runs on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi as the Sunrisers Hyderabad put up yet another phenomenal performance in IPL 2024. Pat Cummins and co went past the 260-run mark for the third time this season and nearly missed out on resetting their own record for the highest score in the tournament’s history. It all started with Travis Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk going berserk right from ball number one.

The onslaught never stopped as SRH accumulated 125 runs within the powerplay. When the breakthroughs came for DC, it was too late or weak. When the Capitals walked in to bat, they too showed aggression from ball number one. However, a clinical performance from all SRH bowlers saw the side bowl out DC to secure a comfortable 67-run victory against Rishabh Pant and co.

Travis Head, you beauty!

Travis Head was just two hits away from scoring the 2nd fastest IPL hundred of all time. This comes just five days after he scored the fourth hundred of all time. That hundred came in just 39 balls, and if he wasn’t caught by Tristian Stubbs at long on when he was at 89 from just 31 balls.

A 22-year-old run-machine

Out of all the big hitters in the match, it was Jake Fraser-McGurk who smashed the most sixes (7), as he made the fastest 50 of the IPL 2024 season. It was another Australian whose record he broke. Travis Head had scored a 16-ball fifty earlier in the match. But, for Fraser-McGurk, it was a challenge that he accepted. Chasing 267, the 22-year-old entered after David Warner was dismissed.

Another youngster on the rise!

Abhishek Sharma set the stage alight with a breathtaking knock, but narrowly missed out on etching his name in IPL history. The left-hander smashed a whirlwind 46 runs off just 12 deliveries, falling just short of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record of the fastest IPL fifty (13 balls) achieved last season.

SRH send records tumbling!

Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma went bonkers against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi. The duo put up a 125-run stand in just six overs, shattering the world record for most runs scored in powerplay in T20s.

Stay strong, Hardik!

Hardik Pandya has been in the eye of the storm ever since he replaced Rohit Sharma as the franchise’s skipper. Former CSK star Robin Uthappa reckons Hardik Pandya must be undergoing mental health issues surely and that the criticism directed at him shouldn’t be encouraged.

Natarajan – a rebirth

In a high-scoring affair where a staggering 465 runs were amassed, T Natarajan stood out with his heroics with the ball. The left-arm pacer conceded a mere 19 runs in his four overs, a phenomenal feat considering the onslaught. But the true story was in his wicket-taking prowess.
