Dinesh Karthik 100% ready for T20 World Cup 2024, ‘very keen’ to come back from retirement

Dinesh Karthik has been in phenomenal form so far in IPL 2024, turning the clock back to the 2022 when he sealed his spot in T20 WC squad

Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Dinesh Karthik is all ready for the T20 World Cup 2024. The finisher has been in phenomenal form so far in IPL 2024, turning the clock back to the 2022 season when he sealed his spot in the T20 WC squad with his stellar performance with the bat. The Tamil Nadu batter, who was so far considered out of the race for a spot in the World Cup squad, is now among the front-runners and he is ready to grab any given opportunity.

Dinesh Karthik all set for T20 World Cup 2024

At this stage in my life, it would be the greatest feeling for me to represent India (at the upcoming T20 World Cup). I’m very, very keen to do so. There is nothing bigger in my life other than representing India in this T-20 World Cup. I also feel there are three very, very stable, honest people who are at their helm to decide what should be the best Indian team for the World Cup. Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar. And I’m completely with them. I respect any decision that they take. But all I can say is I’m 100% ready. And you know I’ll do everything I can to be on that flight to the World Cup,” Dinesh Karthik told PTI.

Why Karthik is needed for T20 World Cup?

Some might be skeptical of selecting Dinesh Karthik. He last played in an T20 World Cup in 2022, scoring just 13 runs in 22 balls. His overall T20 World Cup isn’t much either. In the 8 innings he’s played, Karthik has 71 runs at 8.87 and a strike rate of 97.26. However, things are a bit different now.

The wicketkeeper has already announced his retirement after the IPL 2024 and is batting with freedom. So far, he has scored 226 at 75.33 in 7 matches. However, it’s his strike rate (205.45) that separates him from other batters. No one has a higher strike rate than him on the top 40 run-getters list.
