Gautam Gambhir has always been an outspoken person. In a long chat with Indian comedian and satirist Cyrus Broacha, Gambhir touched on a lot of topics including the first time he faced Sunil Narine, Shah Rukh Khan’s influence as an owner and what it takes to win IPL.
Gambhir returned to KKR as a mentor after being in the same role for Lucknow Super Giants for the past two years. Gambhir is the only captain to win IPL trophies for KKR, gaining victory in 2012 as well as 2014.
‘Most courageous team wins IPL’
The former India batter knows all about winning the IPL and according to him, the most courageous team wins the IPL as opposed to the most talented team.
“It’s not the most talented team that goes on to win the IPL. It’s the most courageous team, that’s willing to fight till the last drop of blood, will go on to win the IPL,” Gambhir said.
‘Knew Sunil Narine was destined for greatness’
Gambhir has brought Sunil Narine back as an opener for KKR in IPL 2024 and the decision has reaped huge dividends. Gambhir said he understood Narine’s potential when he played against him in the first time.
“I faced Sunil Narine in his International Debut at Indore and within 7-8 balls, I knew he was going to become a legend of the game especially in T20 Cricket,” Gambhir said.

Gambhir heaps praise on SRK
Gambhir also heaped praises on KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan, terming him as the best owner ever.
“I’ve said this numerous times that he (Shah Rukh Khan) is the best owner I’ve ever worked with. In the seven years of my captaincy, we didn’t even have a seven-minute conversation on cricket. During the bad patch, I was on the verge of dropping myself, so I went and spoke to him and the only thing he told me was, till you are here, you are not going to drop yourself,” he said.
