Rishabh Pant shows exactly why he is needed in Indian T20 WC squad, pouches an acrobatic catch vs GT

Apart from his brilliant behind the stumps work, Rishabh Pant has done superbly with the bat. In IPL 2024 for DC, Pant has made 194 runs at a strike rate of 157.72 so far

Rishabh Pant’s wicketkeeping skills were once again on display as he grabbed a sensational diving catch to dismiss dangerous batsman David Miller during IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.

The incident unfolded on the final ball of the fifth over, bowled by Ishant Sharma. Miller, who came into the GT team after an injury, attempted to play a defensive stroke on the toes but only managed a thin inside edge. The ball, taking an unexpected turn after brushing Miller’s thigh, seemed destined for the leg-side.

However, Pant, showcasing exceptional reflexes, flung his left hand out and completed a magnificent catch. Initially ruled not out by the umpires, the DC camp opted for a review.

The snickometer confirmed Miller’s faint edge, and the on-field decision was overturned. Pant’s brilliance behind the stumps left GT reeling at a precarious 30/4 after just five overs, effectively dismantling their top order.

The athletic catch showcased Pant’s exceptional reflexes, putting him in a strong position to be a top contender for the wicketkeeper spot for India for the T20 World Cup. Earlier on Wednesday, reports emerged that Pant is going to be with the Indian team to fly to the West Indies and USA for the mega event.

Pant’s spectacular return to competitive cricket has been heartening to see at IPL 2024. Coming after his horrific car accident in December 2022, Pant has not only walked the talked with the bat, but has showcased that there no lingering injury concerns for the southpaw. This return to form, coupled with his complete recovery, makes him a serious frontrunner for the wicket-keeper’s spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
