DRS, April 16: SRH break records, hopes and hearts, RCB win nothing despite DK, VK cameos

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life

What a night it turned out to be on Monday, for both fans and the two sides, at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. In a match that saw record-breaking 549 runs scored in 40 overs, the prelude to it was multiple records being shattered in the process and the answers that were found to some serious questions raised before. RCB’s crippled bowling line-up gave up on the side once again, helping SRH to beat their own record to clock IPL’s highest score – 287 runs.

One can only feel for poor Virat Kohli and the old horse Dinesh Karthik – the lone warriors (apart from skipper du Plessis) who attempted a brave fight back after their bowlers’ blunders. And it did turn out to be a ‘Head’ache before a heartache for RCB as the Australian once again showed why he is the best tormentor from overseas in India. On that note, let’s revisit some of the top stories from Monday.

How much is too much?

Records were shattered at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Not one, but multiple. For starters, the RCB vs SRH game saw the most runs scored in a single game in IPL history so far. If that wasn’t enough, it all began with SRH resetting their own record of the highest total in IPL. Heartbreaks are common for RCB fans but can they ever get over this one?

Headache for RCB

Australia’s Travis Head showed the world once again why he is one of the best in business currently. The prolific opener smashed his first IPL century. Wait, it’s not over. The carnage saw Head smash SRH’s fastest century, helping the team race past 250 runs.

Boss DK

Dinesh Karthik perhaps played his best ever knock after the Nidahas Trophy heroics against SRH on Monday. In what seemed literally like a throwback, DK showed the world once again why he was the best finisher – taking the same route he did in IPL 2022 right before he was picked for the T20 World Cup 2022. Will history repeat itself? Only time, and of course DK can tell.

What strike rate are you talking about?

Virat Kohli silenced critics who targeted him over his strike rate in the shortest format of the game. Chasing a mammoth 288-run target, Kohli raced to 42 runs off just 20 deliveries, striking at a rate of 210. The batting maestro smashed six fours and two sixes before he was dismissed by Markande.

Wait, RCB are record holders too!

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are now the proud record holders for the lowest total with the bat and highest total conceded with the ball. After registering the lowest total of 49 runs, the side has now conceded the most runs in the innings.

Mustafa boost for CSK

CSK will be able to avail the services of pacer Mustafizur Rahman for their clash against PBKS on May 1. The Bangladesh pacer was earlier scheduled to return home on April 30. As per Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has extended the bowler’s leave, making him available to play for CSK on May 1.

Latest IPL news

Who won yesterday’s RCB vs SRH IPL match?

It was raining sixes in Bengaluru. 38 sixes were hit in 40 overs today, and while most of the heavy lifting was done by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (22), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru did their bit as well. Pat Cummins and Co. scored 287 runs, the highest ever score registered in the IPL, and while the target looked too big to chase, the home side came close, eventually losing by 20 runs.
