Chennai Super Kings on Sunday got the better of Mumbai Indians by quite some margin in IPL 2024’s first El Classico at the Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, CSK put on a total of 206. They then proceeded to restrict MI to 186 to notch up their 4th win of the season. Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana played a big part in CSK’s win, with the former scoring 66 off 38 balls and the latter taking 4 wickets for just 28 runs in 4 overs. After the match, the architects of the win caught up for a chat.
I did not have pressure: Pathirana
“This is the best bowling figures I’ve seen on this wicket, tell me about your spell,” Shivam Dube asked Pathirana.
“I did not have pressure from my seniors or the captain so I did the simple things. The coaching staff too came and told me to stick to basics. So I tried to execute my plans and it happened,” Pathirana said.
Pathirana also said he relishes bowling in pressure situations. “I like to bowl in pressure situations because it’s a challenge to me. Sometimes it’s good but sometimes it can be worse,” he said.
Secret behind Pathirana’s celebration
Pathirana opened up on his celebration too, claiming he tries to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I try to do the Cristiano Ronaldo celebration. I try to close my eyes but can’t do that unfortunately so that is why it looks like an Undertaker celebration,” he said.

Secret behind Dube’s success
Shivam Dube said he is reaping the rewards of working hard in the off season.
“I’ve worked really hard on my batting. I’m reaping the rewards of what I’ve done in my off-season. I had the ability but I needed to be a little smarter. Thanks to Mahi Bhai, Fleming for giving me the opportunity to bat early,” he said.
