Cricket is a great leveler. A few months ago, Shamar Joseph was on an all-time high. He’d led the West Indies to a famous victory at the Gabba despite being injured. The pace bowler instantly became a star and picked up franchise deals from all over the world.
Shamar in shambles in his first IPL over
Three months later, the quick bowler made his IPL debut in the KKR vs LSG match. Defending 162, the West Indian pacer was handed the new ball. Everyone had high hopes for the star. But Shamar failed to live up to expectations. He gave up 22 runs in his first-ever over.
Shamar Joseph had clocked 150 kmph during the over but bowled 10 instead of 6 balls, giving away 10 extras (2 no balls, 6 wides, 1 bye, and 1 leg bye). A disastrous start, to say the least. This isn’t the first time a player has failed to handle the IPL pressure, with Kwena Maphaka being the other pacer who failed to live up to the mark just a few days ago in IPL 2024.
