Does Hardik Pandya make ICC T20 World Cup team if not bowling?

ICC T20 World Cup: Should Hardik Pandya make T20 WC squad for Team India if he doesn't bowl? Better to use specialised batter in his place

Hardik Pandya made his return to action after a long injury break. He played his first game after the ODI World Cup in IPL 2024. However, after bowling for a couple of matches, the Mumbai Indians skipper has stopped bowling. This has raised concerns, if he should be in the T20 World Cup squad or not, if he is not bowling.

Will Hardik Pandya make T20 World Cup Squad?

Hardik Pandya is the best all-rounder that the Indian Cricket Team currently has. There is no doubt Ravindra Jadeja is also in the mixes, but Hardik precedes him. Furthermore, in the bowling terms, Haridk brings in the option of an extra pacer which can often help the team in making it a batting heavy side.

Rohit Sharma might get tempted to use a pacer less, if he knows Hardik Pandya is in his team and 100% fit. This can be used in the upcoming World Cup. India doesn’t have Mohammed Shami. Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the attack. If India decides to play 2 pacers, Bumrah and Siraj can make the cut while Hardik would slot in the as the 3rd pacer in the team.

Is Hardik Pandya Injured?

But that wouldn’t be the case if Hardik Pandya is injured. India also another batting and pace all-rounder in the likes of Shivam Dube. The destructive southpaw has lighted up IPL 2024 with huge hits, but hasn’t bowled it. And with many batting options, Dube’s chance seems less.

If Hardik Pandya won’t bowl in the ICC T20 World Cup, it is better to give his spot to a dedicated finisher. Rinku Singh would be a wonderful fit in Hardik’s place. If Team India can’t use Hardik to his full then there is no point in using him as a prominent batter. It would be better to use a specialised player on his behalf.
