Sanju Samson channels his inner MS Dhoni, sends Liam Livingstone back with no-look runout

Samson made sure to stop Liam Livingstone's late resurgence and ensured that Punjab Kings were restricted to under 150.

Is this the Sanju Samson we have been waiting for for years? The talented batter has always had his moments of brilliance, but this year he’s come out as a different player. He’s averaging 82 with a strike rate of 157 in IPL 2024 and is the fourth-highest run-scorer in the event.

But what’s more impressive is his glovework. Samson has never been looked at as an exceptional wicketkeeper. This year, he’s changed that perception altogether. So far, he has 5 dismissals to his name and has now added what can only be described as a trademark MS Dhoni runout.

Sanju Samson or MS Dhoni?

With Liam Livingstone looking to take away the Rajasthan Royals’ advantage in the match, Samson pulled off the best runout of the IPL 2024 season. After being sent back by his partner, Ashutosh Sharma, Livingstone was scrambling back to the crease.

Debutant Tanush Kotian fired a wayward throw, and Samson had to crouch low to his left and throw the ball at the stumps without looking at them. From the looks of it, Livingstone had made his way back, but replays showed that the wicketkeeper had pulled off an incredible runout and ensured he restricted the Punjab Kings to 147.
