A flurry of controversy erupted when Hardik Pandya got the captaincy of Mumbai Indians in December of last year. It divided the fan base and raised questions about what would happen to former captain Rohit Sharma. The status of Rohit within the team and his possible exit have become major talking points for both fans and analysts during the leadership change.
The furore regarding MI leadership
Debates have raged on social media and fan forums, with many expressing support for Rohit and doubting the decision to switch leaders. The already heated discussions have been further fueled by the notion that Rohit might join rivals Chennai Super Kings.
Vaughan ‘sees’ Rohit in Chennai
In a recent BeerBiceps podcast, former England captain Michael Vaughan offered his thoughts on the rumour regarding Rohit’s possible move to CSK.
“Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing it (the captaincy) this year, and it might be just (an act of) holding position for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai,” Vaughan speculated.

In the same podcast, Vaughan discussed his opinions on the leadership situation facing the Mumbai Indians and argued in favor of Rohit keeping the captaincy.
“I personally would’ve captained Rohit. Hardik coming back to MI is big enough pressure in itself, and Rohit is obviously going to be the Indian T20 captain,” Vaughan said.
