Olympics qualifiers: Amit Panghal returns to India squad

Panghal took Deepak Bhoria's place in the World Olympic qualifier to be held in Bangkok from May 25.

In response to the Indian boxers’ lackluster showing in the Olympic qualifying event held in Busto Arsizio, Italy, where they were unable to secure even a single quota spot, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has made six changes for the final qualifying event, the World Olympic qualifier in Bangkok, which takes place from May 25 to June 2.

Following the evaluation of BFI by coaches Dmitry Dmitruk, C.A. Kuttappa and Dharmendra Yadav, the biggest name to return was Amit Panghal, a former silver medallist at the World Championships who won a gold medal at the Strandja Memorial event in Sofia in February of last year. He took Deepak Bhoria’s place.

Former World junior champion Sachin Siwach Jr., another Strandja gold medallist, replaced another Worlds bronze medallist, Mohammad Hussamuddin, in 57kg.
