What is the controversy surrounding Amir?

Amir has been in the news for the wrong reasons. He was convicted for spot fixing charges and was jailed in England for the same. He last played a T20 international in 2020. Amir retired from international cricket after having considerable differences with coaches Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq.

He accused PCB of leaving him “mentally tortured” after announcing his retirement. After a healthy discussion with the PCB, he made a comeback by making himself available in March 2024. Amir had bowled his first spell against India in 2016, getting both the openers on a duck. He had dismissed both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.

Former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja was critical of the decision by the selectors, voicing his angst on Amir’s inclusion. He said that the pacer should never be allowed to play for his country for fixing a match with England. Ramiz added that Amir should not show any kind of leniency whatsoever towards the pacer.
