Not the end of the road: Vijay Shankar confident of GT turnaround in IPL 2024 after defeat to LSG

Shankar has not been in good form in the tournament so far, failing to get a big score on the board. However, he feels he has been hitting the ball well.

Gujarat Titans batter Vijay Shankar on Sunday appeared upbeat after his team lost another match in IPL 2024, this time against Lucknow Super Giants. Chasing a target of 164, GT were restricted to just 130. Vijay Shankar, who is having a tough tournament, scored 17 of 17 balls. However, he reiterated that GT have plenty of matches to turn things around.

Lack of partnership

GT have now lost back-to-back matches for the first time in IPL 2024. Where did they go wrong on Sunday? Vijay Shankar said the lack of partnership made it difficult.

We lost wickets in regular intervals and we couldn’t build a partnership after a very good start,” he said.

‘Hitting the ball well’

Shankar has not been in good form in the tournament so far, failing to get a big score on the board. However, he feels he has been hitting the ball well.

I’ve played in different positions for this team. I’ve been hitting the ball well. Sometimes when you walk in, you need to play the situation as well that the team demands. That has been my role in this team. Everyone needs that score behind them but I feel I’m hitting the ball pretty well. My job is to fulfill the role that is given to me by team management. If you can contribute to the team’s success, nothing like it. We are trying our best to do very well.” Vijay said.

‘Long tournament ahead’

Vijay also talked about the opportunity to do well in IPL despite a tough start.

Although we have lost a few games, it’s not the end of the road for us. It’s a very long tournament so it’s just about raising our hands up and showing character,” he said,
