No Jaiswal, Rinku or Hardik! India’s T20 World Cup squad based on IPL 2024 performances so far

So far, big names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik Pandya haven't played to their potential.

The second week is over, and 21 matches are done and dusted. In the space of 17 days, we have seen incredible catches, last-ball finishes, epic hundreds, and a game where more than 500 runs were scored. Amid all the glitz and glam of the IPL, one mustn’t forget that while their favorite franchise may win or lose, the most important thing is the form of Indian players. With the T20 World Cup 2024 starting on June 2, Indian cricket team fans are already thinking about the probable squad for the event.

Probable T20 World Cup 2024 squad (after 21 matches of IPL 2024)

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson (wk), Rishabh Pant (wk), Harpreet Brar, Krunal Pandya, Khaleel Ahmed, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohit Sharma, Mayank Yadav.

Top Order

So far, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Abhishek Sharma have been the best top-order batters in the IPL 2024. Kohli currently holds the orange cap, has two fifties and one hundred, averages 105, and is striking at 146. Rohit, although he has scored just 118 runs, has a strike rate of 171. Stylish left-hander Abhishek has scored one fifty but is striking at 217, while Gill has a healthy average (45) and strike rate (147) as well.

Middle-order

Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant have impressed with their striking and match-finishing abilities. Dube, Parag, Samson, and Pant have all scored fifties and have some of the best strike rates in the middle orders (7–15). Parag is currently striking at 58, Dube at 160, Samson at 150, and Pant at 154.

All-rounders

Harpreet Brar and Krunal Pandya are the two main frontline options, but Dube, Abhishek, and Parag can also roll their arms over. Krunal and Harpreet have three wickets each at 24 and 15 strike rates, respectively, while giving less than 6 runs per over. Both are left-arm spinners by trade and can work exceptionally well in middle-overs with their low economies. Brar hasn’t done much with the bat yet, but Pandya has played one incredible matching knock so far.

Bowlers

Five out-and-out bowlers have emerged so far. Yuzvendra Chahal is the main spinner, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohit Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mayank Yadav are the pace bowling options. Nothing needs to be said about Bumrah and his ability to bowl in every phase. Khaleel is a great new ball bowler and offers a left-handed advantage. Mayank can be used as a middle-order enforcer, while Mohit offers utility in the death overs alongside Bumrah.
