Babar Azam reveals ‘absence of cricket-centric activities’ in PCB’s Pakistan army camp

Babar Azam concluded by emphasizing the camp's significance in light of the upcoming season's fixtures. He expressed confidence that the training will not only minimize injury risks but also elevate individual skills and collective team performance.

Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has hailed the recent pre-season training camp held at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul as a resounding success. The camp, held from March 26th to April 6th, aimed to prepare the national team for the upcoming season’s challenges.

Emphasis on fitness and Pakistan Cricket Team building

Babar Azam, along with several other players including Aamer Jamal, Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Naseem Shah, and Shadab Khan, commended the exceptional facilities, supportive environment, and expertise of the instructors at the camp. They all expressed confidence that the intensive training will translate into peak performance during the upcoming season.

The 11-day camp, attended by 29 elite cricketers, featured a unique training approach designed by Pakistan Army specialists. The focus shifted from traditional cricket-centric activities to a holistic program emphasizing physical conditioning, team building, and mental resilience.

Experienced trainers and coaches guided the players through a comprehensive regime designed to enhance fitness levels, agility, leadership skills, strategic thinking, and overall on-field performance.

Babar Azam: Beyond Physical Fitness

“This was my third boot camp,” stated Captain Azam, “and each visit offers valuable new experiences. This time, we delved deeper than just physical training. Team bonding activities and performance-enhancing lectures were incorporated, recognizing the importance of a cohesive unit in achieving success.”

Babar Azam highlighted a significant change from previous camps: the absence of cricket-specific drills. Instead, the emphasis was on building a strong foundation through physical conditioning, teamwork, and mental toughness.

He believes this approach, coupled with the inspiring environment and expert guidance, has significantly benefitted all the players.

Babar Azam in a statement stated:

“The notable deviation from previous camps was the absence of cricket-centric activities. Instead, the emphasis was squarely on physical conditioning, teamwork and mental resilience. Immersed in such an inspiring facility, guided by top-notch instructors and a well-structured programme, all the players have experienced significant growth. I’m confident that we’ll return to competitive cricket as better, fitter and mentally tougher athletes, thereby enhancing our overall performance.”

Shared experiences: Babar Azam

“We opted to share rooms, unlike our usual routines,” explained Babar Azam. “This fostered deeper connections, leading to discussions about strategy, team combinations, and the ever-evolving sport of cricket. We analyzed opponents and planned approaches for upcoming challenges.”
