Sanju Samson lights up Jaipur, overtakes Rishabh Pant as highest run-scoring Indian keeper

Samson had scored an unbeaten 82 in the Rajasthan Royals first match of the IPL 2024 season. After a couple of low scores, the wicketkeeper batter has once again found his form.

Another glorious half-century from Sanju Samson at his home. Playing in the brand new pink, he powered the Rajasthan Royals to a fourth consecutive win in the RR vs RCB match. After Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for a duck on the second ball, Samson came in and smashed a rapid 69 off 42, stitching a 148 partnership with Jos Buttler.

Samson, who is looking to storm his way back into the Indian T20I side, has been at his best so far in the IPL 2024 season. He’s already his third-highest run-getter and the leading run-scorer among wicketkeepers.

IPL 2024: Most runs by wicketkeepers

WicketkeeperRuns
Sanju Samson178
Heinrich Klaasen177
Rishabh Pant152
Quinton de Kock139
Jos Buttler135

Pant and Samson are the only two wicketkeepers on the list, and coincidentally, they are the only two who bat at the number four spot. Buttler and de Kock are openers, while Klaasen plays the finisher role for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Not much separates the two Indian keepers. Pant has scored 26 fewer runs than Samson but strikes faster (158 to 151) than the Rajasthan Royals skipper.
