Dhoni, merely 23 then, smashed 15 boundaries and 4 sixes to help India post a huge total of 356.

It’s been 19 year since MS Dhoni announced himself on the International stage with a 148-run innings against arch rivals Pakistan at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. Now, another 5th April looms on the horizon as Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Can the 42-year-old MS Dhoni show glimpses of the 23-year-old Mahi in IPL?

The swashbuckling innings

Dhoni became the talk of the town when he smashed 148 at one of the biggest stages of International cricket. However, he showed no nerves as he went about with his innings, hitting some big shots and forming nice partnerships with his teammate. Dhoni, coming in to bat at number 3 after the departure of Sachin Tendulkar, stitched a partnership of 96 runs with Virender Sehwag.

After Sehwag’s dismissal, Dhoni continued his onslaught with the bat. He had another long partnership with Rahul Dravid as the duo scored 149-runs among them. Courtesy of the powerful batting, Indian finished their innings with a score of 356.

Pakistan, chasing the huge total, were bundled out for 298 runs, handing India a comfortable defeat. The wicketkeeper-batter won the Man of the Match award for scoring 148 and taking two catches in the match.

Same aura, older MS Dhoni

A lot of time has passed since Dhoni played that memorable innings. He had since led India to two World Cup triumphs and CSK to five IPL trophies. On another 5th April, the 42-year-old Dhoni prepare to play another match against SRH. The numerous fans of Dhoni will just wish to see the same composed Dhoni on the field. After his last innings, there’s a high chance fans won’t be disappointed should he get to bat.
