The Punjab Kings have struck gold! Their mistaken pick, Shashank Singh, has continued to impress. The right-hander came to the middle at 70/4 in 8.4 overs and took his team to 200 with one ball to spare. The 31-year-old scored a mind-blowing 29-ball 61, striking at over two runs a ball, and proved why buying him instead of the ‘right’ Shashank has turned into a masterstroke.
This was the second time Shashank impressed with the bat, having scored an 8-ball 21 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Such was the knock that he outshined Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, who scored the highest individual score of the IPL 2024 in the first inning.

How the Punjab Kings got the ‘right’ Shashank Singh
The Kings were looking to pick 19-year-old Shashank Singh but mistakenly picked the 32-year-old from Chhattisgarh. Taking him for Rs 20 lakh, Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, and Sanjay Bangar congratulated each other but soon realized their unforced error. They tried to reverse the decision but weren’t allowed to do so.
When netizens found out about the mistake the franchise had made, they were laughed at online for making the schoolboy error. The very next day, PBKS came out with the statement that, where they admitted that there was some confusion, they had picked the ‘right’ player.
Today, April 4, nothing seems more correct. Indeed, the franchise made the right call by picking the talented 32-year-old Shashank Singh.
