In order for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to “fire all cylinders,” star batter Virat Kohli must be available for his team during the middle overs, according to former South African and RCB batting legend AB de Villiers. This season, RCB has lost three of its first four games in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is a bad start for the team.
RCB’s lone productive batter, Virat, has amassed 203 runs at an average of 67.66 across four games, including two fifties. Due to his immaculate form with the bat this season, he currently holds the Orange Cap. Major players like Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Rajat Patidar, captain Faf Du Plessis, and others haven’t been able to complement Kohli with the bat, leading to a blip in form.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, De Villiers said, “Hopefully, he (Virat) keeps going with his good start, because RCB need that glue in the middle overs. We need him to get through the first six (overs), that is ultimately how I want to see him play. Let Faf take more risk upfront, but Virat, I want you to be there over 6-15. That is when RCB is going to fire from all cylinders. Watch out for that.”

Not a bad start: ABD
Despite RCB losing three of the four matches played so far in IPL 2024, De Villiers has termed RCB’s start as ‘not bad’.
“RCB… not a bad start but not great. It is in the middle, and they need a couple of wins. They will be hitting the road and hopefully, they find a good fortune away from home before they come back to the Chinnaswamy,” De Villiers added.
