Is Prithvi Shaw in trouble? Mumbai court directs police to investigate molestation allegations: Report

Prithvi Shaw's performances with the bat have dipped considerably, over the last couple of years, and has struggled with injuries too.

A court in Mumbai has directed the police investigate the allegations of Sapna Gill, who had levelled molestation charges against India cricketer Prithvi Shaw in 2023. As per a report in PTI, Metropolitan Magistrate S C Tayde asked the police to submit the report before June 19.

What Had Happened Between Sapna Gill & Prithvi Shaw

The charges had first surfaced last year with Gill claiming, that Shaw had molested her in a suburban Andheri pub. The cricketer has of course denied all such charges. Gill, who was arrested in Feb last year for attacking Shaw following an argument, is out on bail.

Gill had claimed that the police didn’t register the FIR against Shaw, and moved to the magistrate court to file a case against the cricketer. The police on their part clarified that the charges were baseless, and that Gill was with a friend and the duo were drunk when the incident happened.

Gill sought an FIR against Shaw under IPC sections 354 (molestation), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), which was denied.

What Happens with Shaw Now

Shaw is currently playing for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024, and it is not clear whether he could be summoned or not. Till now, he has had an ordinary tournament, after making a comeback of sorts from a long injury layoff, during the Ranji Trophy this year.
