‘Captaincy chhod de bhai’: Fans’ verdict on Hardik Pandya’s leadership skills after losing 3 on trot

Pandya has one of the best captaincy records in his short captaincy career, but so far he's yet to win a match in the IPL 2024 season.

After taking the Gujarat Titans to two consecutive IPL Finals, Hardik Pandya has suffered three losses on the trot as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain. Before returning to his ‘old’ franchise, Pandya had a 22-9 record as a skipper in the IPL. So far, he hasn’t been able to live up to the high standard that he himself set.

After a humiliating loss against the Rajasthan Royals at their home ground, fans are coming for the all-rounder. While some backed him, most wanted him to leave the role and hand the captaincy back to Rohit Sharma.

We deserve better than Hardik Pandya, say Mumbai Indians fans

‘Good luck facing the crowd at Wankhede’ a fan said cheekily. Another in not too warm words said, ‘Bhai captaincy chhod de please’. The best dig came from a fan, who said that I had no message for him; the public had already delivered it. ‘Mereko message dene ki zarorat hi nahi ha, first match me Gujarat valo ne stadium me hi de diya’ the fan said.

Contrary to other opinions, one Mumbai Indian fan backed the all-rounder. ‘I hope that you have a good time back in Mumbai after leading Gujarat Titans’, he said, wishing Pandya the best.

Should Rohit Sharma come back to lead MI?

Having won five IPL titles, it’s no shock that MI fans want the opener to helm the leadership once again. One fan said, ‘He’s good as a player, but as a captain, we deserve someone better’. There is no one ‘better’ in the squad than Rohit at the moment. They have Jasprit Bumrah, who hasn’t led the side, and Suryakumar Yadav is currently out.

All this may sound nice, but it is virtually impossible. The franchise has already decided to move on from Rohit and has decided to put all its chips on Hardik Pandya. To now remove him as their skipper after three bad games is something that won’t cross their minds.
