The captaincy of Mumbai Indians could be returned to Rohit Sharma, according to former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary. All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is leading the five-time Indian Premier League champions after his historic trade from Gujarat Titans, has led his team to three consecutive losses as they start their 2024 campaign.
After leading Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in 2022 and all the way to the final in 2023, Pandya was traded to MI. Although he took over as captain of Mumbai Indians in place of veteran skipper Rohit, he has yet to lead them to victory.
Following a dismal start to the 2024 season, Rohit might be named Mumbai’s captain once more, according to Tiwary, who was speaking to Cricbuzz following Mumbai’s defeat to Rajasthan.
“Mumbai’s captaincy could be handed back to Rohit Sharma. What I understand is that the owners of Mumbai Indians don’t hesitate in making decisions. They made the call of taking the captaincy from Rohit and giving it to Hardik Pandya despite Rohit winning five IPL titles for them,” said Tiwary.
“Changing the captain is a very big call. They have not picked up a single point this season. And the captaincy is also all over the place, it’s not just bad luck and the captaincy has been very good, that’s not the case. The captaincy has not been great,” Tiwary added.
