Riyan Parag is finally doing his talent justice. Having been playing in the IPL since 2019, it’s only now that the batter is coming of age. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) cricketer scored his second unbeaten fifty of the IPL 2024 season and claimed the orange cap from Virat Kohli after top-scoring in the MI vs RR match.
Despite lighting the world on fire, Parag has claimed that he’s not changed anything. After a horrendous last season, where he scored just 78 runs in 7 matches, the turnaround has been incredible to watch. The credit for this goes to the batter and the franchise for backing him for the last six seasons despite no returns.
Riyan Parag on making ‘no changes’ and practicing scenarios
After the match, Riyan Parag revealed the reason behind his newfound success. In the post-match interview, he said:
“Nothing has changed, just that I have simplified things. Before I would think about things too much, this year the goal is simple: watch the ball, hit the ball.“

He also talked about how batting at the number four spot in domestic cricket has helped them in the ongoing season and what he did after struggling in the IPL.
It’s a funny thing, I have said before, this is the exact situation I go in to bat in domestic cricket. When Jos (Buttler) got out, I went in to bat; this is when I usually go out to bat. For 3-4 years, I haven’t performed well (IPL). When the performances are not coming, you get back to the drawing board. I practiced really hard; I have practiced these kinds of scenarios,” he concluded.
