LSG adopt wait and watch approach for KL Rahul, not to rush him into wicketkeeping

It looks like KL Rahul will not be hurried into wicketkeeping for LSG in IPL 2024, keeping in mind his role for India at T20 World Cup 2024

Lucknow Super Giants are treading carefully when it comes to skipper KL Rahul and wicketkeeping. The move has been taken to ease him back from injury. The Karnataka batter played as an impact player in LSG’s previous game and did not keep wickets. It is highly unlikely that he will do so in the game against RCB as well on Tuesday.

LSG go easy on KL Rahul

As per ESPNCricinfo, KL Rahul stayed away from keeping as he trained in Bengaluru ahead of the clash against RCB. Under the supervision of head coach Justin Langer, KL Rahul underwent a series of timed sprint and mobility drills. However, while practicing the full range of body movements while playing the sweep, he reportedly felt his left hamstring consistently. This was followed by Rahul sitting at a corner of the M Chinnaswamy stadium after which he keenly studied the pitch.

Later, he batted against the team’s net bowlers and throwdown specialists before he pulled out 15 minutes later. He was then reportedly spotted having yet another chat with coach Langer. Talking about his injury, KL Rahul was ruled out of the IND vs ENG series in February after a quadricep injury. It was followed by surgery and rehabilitation that kept him out of action until IPL 2024.

Why KL Rahul’s workload management is important

In the previous game, stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran had said that the IPL was a long tournament and that they wanted to ensure enough rest was provided to KL Rahul. Needless to say, the Karnataka batter will be an integral part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad and hence the workload management would be absolutely necessary.
