Delhi Capitals batter Prithvi Shaw on Sunday showed what exactly his team were missing right after getting a chance. The batter, who sat out of the first two games, was given a chance on the third game. He instantly made an impact, scoring 43 runs from 27 balls to set up DC’s win against CSK. After the game, Shaw spoke about his plans when he went out to bat, how the franchise has treated him and MS Dhoni’s influence on him.
Delhi Capitals were winless in their first two matches but bounced back in style against the defending champions to notch up their first points on the board. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave a perfect start to DC with an opening partnership of 93 runs.
Speaking on IPL’s official website, Shaw revealed that his plan was to play smart cricket rather than whack every ball.
“I don’t know about this year but in every IPL, they expect me to whack every ball. I don’t consider it as pressure, I just try to go out there, take it as challenge and do my best. It felt good to play white-ball cricket after so long. After coming back from an injury, the hunger is there to score runs, middle the balls. IPL is that kind of a game. If you middle the ball, you know it’s your day. Today I was trying to play smartly because we did not get an ideal start, so I was trying to sort it out,” Shaw said.

Dhoni the enigma
Shaw was seen walking up to Dhoni and having a chat after the game. When asked about the former Indian captain, Shaw was all praise for him.
“No words for him. Whenever he comes on the ground, everyone can hear what he has achieved and what kind of happiness he gives to the people who are seating out there. Whenever I get a chance to meet him or talk to him, he always shares his experience on what he has done throughout and what I need to do to improve. I’m very lucky to be able to play in the presence of him,” Shaw said.
