True to MS Dhoni’s character, there was not a soul who had an idea about his decision to step down from CSK captaincy ahead of the IPL 2024 season. When Ruturaj Gaikwad was seen in the Captain’s photoshoot ahead of the tournament, a lot of questions were raised whether Ruturaj Gaikwad would be able to handle the pressure. However, according to Ruturaj’s own admission, he shares a lot of similar traits to MS Dhoni.
Chennai Super Kings have made a fantastic start to IPL 2024. The CSK team with their new captain has won their first two matches of season. They are one of the three teams in IPL to maintain a 100% win record so far. Gaikwad’s captaincy has been spot on, with MS Dhoni helping him out quite a bit.
Gaikwad on Sunday spoke about Dhoni’s influence on him. The new CSK captain, in an interaction with Star Sports, said that he has always had the support of Dhoni whenever he needed it.
“When I watched him closely for one year, when I wasn’t playing regularly in 2019, I realised I have some traits which Mahi has as well. I also realised that we as persons are of similar nature. We both try to be as mature as possible in the field, and try to be as calm, composed, fun and relaxing off the field,” Ruturaj said.
“I am really grateful that he is always there for me whenever I need him,” he added.
