Has Ishan Kishan missed the T20 World Cup 2024 bus once and for all? The Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batter on Wednesday gave his team a solid start in his team’s chase of 278 runs. The opening batter scored a blistering 34 runs in just 13 balls as the opening pair of Mumbai brought up their 50-run partnership in just 3 overs. It was Ishan’s first meaningful knock after BCCI decided against providing him with a contract, although it came in a losing cause.
Ishan Kishan on a roll
Ishan Kishan came out to bat with a huge target of 278 runs in mind. The left-handed batter has been in the news recently for disregarding BCCI’s diktat to play Ranji Trophy and being snubbed of a BCCI contract. However, Ishan showed no signs of slowing down as he smashed the SRH bowlers all around the park to provide Mumbai Indians with a brisk start.
The opening batter smashed four huge 6s and two 4s as he looked menacing. However, he could not convert his start into a big score. The southpaw was caught at deep mid-wicket trying to slog left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem.

Is Ishan Kishan’s chances of boarding the T20 WC bus over?
Even though Ishan Kishan is an asset for any team to have, specially in T20 cricket, it seems like he is too far off in the list of probables for the T20 World Cup. The opening slots for the World Cup sees huge competition with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the fray. Wicketkeeping wise, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel or Samson Samson seem to be ahead in the list. Ishan would need a lot more than a some quick 30s to change the selectors’ minds.
