Fans line up three hours before SRH vs MI clash outside Uppal Stadium in heat to see Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was replaced by Hardik Pandya as the MI captain ahead of IPL 2024

Rohit Sharma might not be the captain of Mumbai Indians anymore but the HITMAN on India still remains the fan favourite. Leading MI to 5 elusive IPL trophies, the fans have backed the Indian captain throughout and the same was the case Rohit Sharma geared up for his 200th IPL appearance at the Uppal Stadium.

A hoard of fans were seen outside the stadium from 3.30 PM standing in heat to watch Rohit Sharma in action. Most of them were seen wearing the MI jerseys with 45 on their back.

Mumbai Indians’ poster boy

Rohit Sharma has been with the Mumbai-based outfit since 2011 and has become their poster boy, driving them to new heights. Besides directing MI to five titles during his 10-year leadership term, the veteran opener has 5041 runs, including a century.

While many may disagree with Rohit’s removal from captaincy and the selection of Hardik as MI captain, it may benefit him by freeing him of additional responsibilities at a time when he is already overwhelmed with India’s leadership. He is overdue for a spectacular season, and 2024 may be it.

How was Rohit Sharma’s first game under Hardik Pandya?

The spotlight in the GT vs MI encounter was on Rohit Sharma, who walked the pitch for the first time as a significant player rather than captain after Hardik Pandya took over. Rohit showed promising form during MI’s match against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Despite Ishan Kishan’s early removal, Rohit demonstrated his prowess by creating a resilient 43-run innings off 29 balls, complete with seven fours and one six. Sai Kishore, a left-arm spinner, dismissed him LBW to end his innings.
