Shivam Dube has worked on ‘short ball in his own time, not here in our time’: CSK’s Michael Hussey

Dube's success is a testament to his own hard work and determination. The added support from the CSK management has undoubtedly played a role, but it's Dube's personal initiative that has truly propelled him to new heights.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have started their IPL 2024 campaign with a bang, thrashing the Gujarat Titans by 63 runs. A key factor in their success has been the resurgence of Shivam Dube, who has overcome his weakness against the short ball.

Shivam Dube Transformation

Shivam Dube impressive form has been a revelation. His powerful hitting, including five sixes in a blistering 23-ball 51 against GT, has been a major boost for CSK.

However, the most remarkable aspect has been his newfound ability to handle short deliveries, a chink in his armor earlier in his career.

CSK and MS Dhoni deserves credit?

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad attributed Dube’s transformation to the team management, specifically MS Dhoni’s personal work with the player. Gaikwad praised Dube’s confidence and his understanding of his role within the team.

Independent work ethic makes difference

However, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey offered a different perspective. He acknowledged Dube’s hard work during training sessions but emphasized the player’s independent efforts.

Hussey highlighted Dube’s dedication in working on his weakness during his personal time, demonstrating his commitment to improvement.

CSK batting coach Michael Hussey in the post match press conference said:

“I have to give a lot of credit to Shivam Dubey. He has gone away and he has worked tirelessly against the short ball in his own time, not here in our time. I mean he works hard here as well and he get to get lot of short stuff thrown at him. But to his credit, he had gone way and he thinks that’s the area he need to improve and that the area where the oppositions teams will come after him. And he has gone away and did hours and hours of work. He is playing with confidence now and he is also as dangerous as ever against the spinners.”

Confidence in IPL 2024: Shivam Dube

This dedication has paid off. Shivam Dube is now playing with greater confidence and is no longer a liability against short deliveries. Furthermore, he remains a dangerous player against spin bowling, making him a well-rounded threat to opposition teams.

Dube’s success is a testament to his own hard work and determination. The added support from the CSK management has undoubtedly played a role, but it’s Dube’s personal initiative that has truly propelled him to new heights.
