CSK vs GT: Chennai Metro services extended until 1 AM to aid fans attending IPL 2024 clash

CSK started their IPL 2024 game with a stellar 6-wicket win over RCB

In anticipation of the epic IPL 2024 clash at Chepauk Stadium today, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced an extension of metro services until 1:00 am on March 27. The match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans is scheduled to commence at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai at 7:30 pm.

This initiative aims to facilitate safe travel for cricket enthusiasts returning home. Given the expected congestion around the stadium area, fans have been advised to procure metro tickets in advance through online platforms or ticket counters to avoid long queues post-match. Previously, on March 22, Chennai Metro extended train services beyond 11:00 pm, operating until 1:00 am on March 23, 2024.

CMRL emphasized in an official statement, “After the match, the rush at Government Estate / Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro stations would be very high and may result in long wait in the queues for purchase of tickets.”

Commuters are urged to purchase their metro tickets beforehand for return or round trips, either online via platforms like the CMRL mobile app, Paytm app, Phonepe app, WhatsApp, ONDC, etc., or at ticket counters at any station before heading to the stadium.

To cater to late-night travellers, single journey tickets will be available at flat fares of Rs. 40 from Government Estate Metro and Rs. 50 from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station after 11:00 pm on the CMRL network.

After 11:00 pm, Chennai Metro will operate only from Government Estate Metro Station towards Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station, with interchange facilities to the Green Line available at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station.
