Bowl stump-to-stump: Harpreet Brar provides insight into his plan as PBKS succumb to first defeat of IPL 2024

Brar was the most economical bowler in the match, giving away just 13 runs and dismissing Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar in his four overs.

Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar on Monday produced a controlled bowling performance although it came in a lost cause. Punjab Kings lost their first match of IPL 2024 when they were beaten by Royal Challenger Bengaluru by 4 wickets. Although PBKS were the second-best team of the day, Harpreet Brar had a good day with the ball, taking 2 wickets and giving away just 13 runs in his 4 overs. After the match, Brar explained his thought process and the plan he was looking to carry out while bowling.

Plan was to bowl away from the arc

Harpreet Brar was the most economical bowler of the match. Royal Challengers Bengaluru were cruising with Virat Kohli on the crease. However, the left-arm spinner stemmed the flow of runs and took the crucial wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar.

When asked about what his strategy was and if the small size of Chinnaswamy was on his mind, Brar said, “Can’t bowl according to the ground or the surface. Bowling in T20 cricket is all about lengths. We always look to bowl away from the arc of the batters. The bowlers were getting help from the wicket so that was all that was going through in my mind. All I had to do was bowl in a particular area consistently, and I got wickets.”

When the wicket is helping, all one has to do as a bowler is to bowl stump-to-stump. I did that and got the wickets,” he added.

Built up pressure by bowling dots: Brar

Brar bowled a number of dot balls during his spell. He said he wanted to build up pressure and convert those dot balls into wickets.

My strategy was to build up the pressure by bowling as many dot balls as possible. The plan is to always control the economy rate. If you don’t give away too much runs , the pressure builds on the batters and the dot balls become your wicket-taking delivery,” Brar said.
