Who is leading Mumbai Indians? Rohit Sharma ‘captains’ on Hardik Pandya’s MI captaincy debut

Rohit led the Mumbai Indians to five titles from 2013 to 2023, making him the second-most successful skipper in IPL history.

Hardik Pandya may have become the Mumbai Indians captain, but it seems like the leadership instinct hasn’t left Rohit Sharma yet. In the habit of leading the side for the last decade, when in battle, Rohit’s instincts kicked in, and instead of Hardik, he seemed to take charge of the situation in the middle.

Who’s the MI captain?

After the end of the 12th over, it seemed like Rohit Sharma was telling Hardik Pandya what he needed to do. In what looked like a lengthy conversation regarding the bowling and changes in the field that the new MI skipper should make, Pandya eventually moved back to his spot, nodding his head in agreement.

Previously, Rohit was also seen looking to boost Luke Wood’s morale. The opener has always looked to back his bowlers during his captaincy tenure, and he looked to do the same for Wood. However, the left-arm pacer paid no heed to the former 5-time champion as he walked back to his mark.

Having been removed as skipper just a couple of months ago, it seems like Rohit Sharma might need some time to take a back seat and let Hardik Pandya handle things in his style.
