Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka matches in recent times have always ensured drama if not anything else. During the BAN vs SL first Test of the series, another incident took center stage when Bangladesh seamer Khaled Ahmed attempted to run Kamindu Mendis out at the non-striker’s end before the bowling the ball. The Mankad attempt, however, was unsuccessful as the he bowler instead of knocking the bails off, threw the ball backwards at the stumps but it missed the stumps.

In order to increase the team’s lead in the second innings, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis established a strong partnership. Bangladesh were desperate to make a breakthrough and get back into the game after the pair put on over 100 runs for the seventh wicket.
On the third day, Khaled Ahmed made the audacious attempt to run out Kamindu Mendis at the non-striker’s end. The bowler appeared to have a chance to run out before bowling the delivery, but the effort to move the stumps was not successful.

However, it remains a doubt where Kamindu Mendis would have had to walk back if the run out was executed, specially because Bangladesh had on a previous occasion recalled Ish Sodhi back after a similar incident. However, with the current rivalry with Sri Lanka, it would have been an interesting situation had the run out been executed.
