Just like Roger Federer: MS Dhoni likened to Tennis legend after heroics in CSK vs RCB

Dhoni, making his return to competitive cricket after a year, looked as sharp as ever behind the wicket, taking two catches and producing a brilliant run-out.

‘Aging like a fine wine’ is a phrase one can easily use while describing former Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni. Dhoni, who relinquished captaincy just a day before the start of IPL 2024, looked as sharp as ever behind the wicket even as he returned to competitive cricket after a year. Dhoni’s sensational fitness prompted former Indian player Robin Uthappa to liken Dhoni to Tennis great Roger Federer.

MS Dhoni had surgery on his knee after battling an injury during the 2023 Indian Premier League season. Dhoni put a lot of effort into his recuperation to get well in time for the upcoming season, despite initial doubts about his IPL future. However, he looked just like his former self on Friday. Dhoni took two catches and ran Anuj Rawat out with a precise underarm throw in the last ball of RCB’s innings.

Seeing Dhoni behind the stumps gave no signs about the fact that he was away from cricket for a whole year. It was evident that he has worked hard behind the scenes to make himself fit for the tournament.

Robin Uthappa, speaking on Jio Cinema, hailed Dhoni’s commitment to get fit for the new season.

His knee looks brand new at the moment. The fact that he is jogging and striding well just goes to show he has done the work behind the scenes. Just like Roger Federer. Nobody knows the kind of work ethic he has got, but he turns up in tournaments and looks really good. MS Is doing that,” Uthappa said.

He is looking good, looking healthy and strong from the looks of it, seems to be batting well. Like I said in the past, CSK will play MS Dhoni on a wheelchair. But, I think he has begun well. Dhoni will be happy about it. He has been playing tennis, and paddle tennis to keep himself it. He looks as good as gold at the moment,” Uthappa added.
