IPL 2024: Madushanka ruled out, SLC likely to refuse NOC to 3 players for T20 WC

Mumbai Indians suffer Dilshan Madushanka blow, SLC mulls refusing NOC to Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera for T20 World Cup.

As many as four Sri Lankan players could miss the entire IPL 2024. The reason is T20 World Cup 2024. With England already pulling out players, Sri Lanka are on the verge of doing so to protect their stars who are still recovering from injuries. Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera and Matheesha Pathirana could miss the entire Indian Premier League Season 17. Dilshan Madushanka is also ruled out of IPL.

As per a Newswire report, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) does not want to issue NOC to the three other crucial players. All three have had niggles or injuries and are recovering. With T20 World Cup 2024 set to begin just a week after IPL 2024, SLC is mulling refusing NOC (No Objection Certificate) to them.

Only Maheesh Theekshana and Nuwan Thushara have joined their respective franchises Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

Wanindu Hasaranga

Even though he could join Sunrisers Hyderabad while serving a two Test suspension, Wanindu Hasaranga will remain with Sri Lanka Test squad in Bangladesh. That means, the star leg-spinner will miss first 15 days of the tournament. And whether he will take part in IPL 2024 is a decision for SLC. Hasaranga also suffered a heel injury in the Bangladesh series.

IPL 2024 News

Dilshan Madushanka

The Lankan pacer was on fire in the ODI World Cup. He was one of the highest wicket-takers of the tournament. However, he will miss IPL 2024 after suffering a hamstring injury. Mumbai Indians have named Kwena Maphaka – the left-arm pacer from South Africa as a replacement.

Dushmantha Chameera

The injury-prone pacer injured his left quadriceps during SL vs AFG 2nd ODI. He limped off and is yet to be fully fit. And with T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon, he is unlikley to get the NOC.

Matheesha Pathirana

The youngstar is already confirmed to miss the initial stages. But he could miss the entire season of IPL. Pathirana has suffered a thumb injury and he is set to miss at least eight weeks of action. And with T20 World Cup coming up, SLC could also deny him NOC.
