The selectors can’t think that..: MSK Prasad delivers bold message on Virat Kohli’s inclusion in T20 WC squad

Furthermore, MSK Prasad pointed out that it would be a flagrant violation if the selectors judge Virat Kohli solely on how well he performs in the IPL 2024, where he will be making his competitive return.

Is Indian batter Virat Kohli in or out of contention for the T20 World Cup in June? That’s the question that has been raging in the cricketing world after reports suggesting that the current selection committee wants to ignore Kohli for the tournament surfaced. However, former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad feels Virat Kohli has to be an automatic choice in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

In a recent interview with official IPL broadcasters, MSK Prasad asserted that for India to end their trophy drought in the ICC, Virat Kohli—regardless of his form—must be a member of that Indian team. During the last two ICC tournaments, the Cricket World Cup last year and the T20 World Cup in 2022, the Indian batting mainstay has been the Men in Blue’s top run scorer.

Additionally, MSK Prasad noted that if the selectors evaluate Virat Kohli based only on his performance in the IPL 2024, where he will be making his competitive comeback, that would be a flagrant violation. The 36-year-old hasn’t played since January 2024, and from January to March, he was absent from the entire five-match home Test series against England.

Kohli is crucial for India in the T20 World Cup. The selectors can’t think that IPL is a place for him to prove his quality. He was never out of the team for his form. He missed India matches because of family reasons. He has been in form for a long time. He will make runs in this IPL as well,” Prasad said.
