IPL 2024: No more captain, Rohit Sharma begins 2nd innings at Mumbai Indians in first practice

WATCH: Former skipper of Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma begins his preparations for the upcoming IPL.

IPL 2024: Former skipper of Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma joined the team just four days ahead of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the much-awaited arrival, Rohit reached the team hotel in Mumbai on March 18 (Monday) to kick off the preparations for the IPL 2024. Rohit wasted no time as he went through a batting session at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

It will be after a long time that Rohit will be playing as a player in MI. Rohit Sharma formerly captained Mumbai Indians and the team has won 5 titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 under his leadership, making him the most successful captain in IPL history, sharing this record with MS Dhoni (5 title wins in IPL). Rohit is also the tournament’s third highest-run getter behind Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli.

The right-handed batter is expected to open the innings for MI. With the burden of leadership removed, Rohit might be able to play more freely and give Mumbai some good starts in the field restrictions.

Rohit recently led the Indian team to a 4-1 triumph against England in the 5-match Test series. He scored 400 runs in 9 innings that included 2 hundreds and will look to continue his stellar form in the shortest format of the game as well.
