WPL 2024 final: Shafali Verma scores quickfire 44 to provide Delhi Capitals with a brisk start

The Delhi Capitals opener took on the RCB bowlers right from the start and ensured Meg Lanning's team were in the front foot early on.

Cometh the hour, cometh the (wo)man! Shafali Verma on Sunday came out all guns blazing in the Women’s Premier League final against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Delhi Capitals opening batter struck a fantastic 44 runs off just 27 balls at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to put Meg Lanning’s team on the front foot in the WPL 2024 final.

Delhi Capitals on Sunday won the toss and elected to bat first in the WPL 2024 final. Skipper Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma opened the innings for last year’s runners up. While Lanning started cautiously and looked to get herself in, Shafali started going hammer and tongs right from the start.

Shafali looked to take on the RCB bowlers and gave Delhi Capitals a fantastic start. Shafali raced to 44 runs off 27 balls courtesy of two 4s and 3 huge sixes as RCB failed to stem the flow of runs.

However, just when it looked like Shafali would go on to score her 50 and move towards a big score, Sophie Molineux struck. The Australia spinner bowled an intelligent delivery on Shafali’s leg. Shafali sat down and played a sweep shot but was caught at the deep square leg region Georgia Wareham.
