Will IPL 2024 be the start of the end for MS Dhoni? According to his former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate, Ambati Rayudu, fans could see the legendary skipper give his mantle to someone else this year. The wicketkeeper batter had done something similar in 2022 when he handed the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja, but that plan backfired, and Dhoni has reclaimed the role since.
Talking with Star Sports about Dhoni handing over the captaincy to someone else and using the new impact player rule to his advantage, Rayudu said:
“With the impact player rule, he can take a back seat and promote someone to captain their side in the middle. So this year might be a transition year for CSK if it’s his last year, if he decides to play for a few more years, I think he would be the captain. I would personally like him to see as a captain.”
The former CSK batter also highlighted how MS Dhoni will not be stopped by anything including injury, as he played through the last season with an injured knee as well. While praising his former skipper, he said:
“I think if he has decided to play this season and if he is even 10% fit, he will definitely play the full season and knowing him, injury will not keep him out of the game and he has played through many injuries. Even during last season he was playing with a very bad knee injury, so I don’t think anything will stop him from playing this full season.”
