So, finally the Lok Sabha election dates are out. The polls in India will be held from April 19 to June 1 in seven phases, while the results will be announced June 4. Now, where does that leave the BCCI and the much-awaited and anticipated IPL 2024 schedule. It was last month, that only a two week schedule for the IPL was announced — from March 22 to April 7, and now all eyes will be on the board to come up with the second phase itinerary.
But the election dates, coupled with the T20 World Cup, that starts on June 2 in the USA & West Indies, is bound to give sleepless nights to the BCCI. It’s not like the IPL has coincided with the general elections, but this time around, the challenges seem far too many for the board.
But as per various reports, the IPL schedule is expected to be out next week, and there are no chances of the tournament going abroad. While the UAE might have been the most feasible option, if at all, but the climate there in March, April, and May would be energy-sapping for the players.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal too had sounded confident of hosting the entire tournament in the country itself. There is 2019 precedence as well, where despite the general elections, the tournament was smoothly conducted in India. The 2019 IPL took place from March 23 to May 12 and coincided with the elections, from April 11 to May 19.
Gautam Gambhir Mistakenly Reveals IPL Final Date
It seems like that the BCCI has already prepared a tentative, full IPL schedule, where final changes will be made, if at all any needed. KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir, during his speech made at team’s practice session, mistakenly revealed the IPL final date as May 26. If at all that date is true, the fans can brace up for more double-headers in the competition.
