The Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 qualification process has been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC). India and Sri Lanka will share co-hosting duties for the 20-team competition, which will feature 12 automatic qualifiers.
The top eight teams in the 2024 competition will automatically qualify, along with India and Sri Lanka. The next best-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings table as of June 30, 2024, will occupy the remaining spots, which will range from two to four, depending on the host finishing positions. The remaining eight positions will be filled through the Regional Qualifiers.

Moreover, beginning with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States in June 2024, the stop-clock will be permanently implemented in all ODIs and T20Is.
The stop clock was trialed by the ICC in December 2023 for men’s limited-overs international matches. Although the trial was only scheduled to last until April 2024, it has already produced results in terms of timely match completion.
Beginning on June 1, 2024, all Full Member ODI and T20I matches will require the feature as a prerequisite for participation.
