Batter Rohit Sharma needs to come good for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, feels ex-India spinner

Rohit Sharma found himself in the middle of controversy ahead of the start of IPL 2024 when he was unceremoniously removed as the captain of the Mumbai Indians.

Former India and Mumbai Indians off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has urged Indian captain Rohit Sharma to step up with the bat for MI in IPL 2024. Rohit Sharma, who recently led India to a famous Test series win over England, has been in the middle of controversy for MI after being replaced by Hardik Pandya as the captain of the team.

Ahead of IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma was removed as MI skipper.

Hardik Pandya returned to MI after two years away when he signed with the team from the Gujarat Titans. Hardik took over as captain of MI a few weeks after his return, succeeding veteran skipper Rohit Sharma. Rohit has been Mumbai Indians’ most successful captain, guiding the team to five IPL trophies during his decade-long reign.

Mumbai Indians missed out on making the playoffs in 2021 and 2022, despite becoming the first team to win the IPL five times in 2020. Last year, they made it to the playoffs but were unable to make it to the final. Rohit Sharma’s record hasn’t been too great in recent IPLs. The Indian player amassed 600 runs at a strike rate of 126.84 and an average of 20.00 over the last two IPL seasons.
