Ahead of IPL 2024, CSK star Rachin Ravindra becomes youngest to bag NZ Cricketer of the Year award

As Kane Williamson reaches the end of his career, Rachin has been touted by many as the next great batter for New Zealand.

Rachin Ravindra is a star in the making. At just 24 years old, the southpaw all-rounder has become the youngest recipient of the New Zealand Cricket of the Year award (the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal). Having become the Kiwi with the most runs at a single edition of an ODI World Cup last year, the youngster bagged a Rs 1.8 crore deal with reigning champions the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to end the year on a high.

After scoring 578 runs at 64 with three centuries and two half-centuries to his name, Ravindra had broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record (523 runs at the 1996 World Cup) for scoring most runs at the ODI World Cup before turning 25. He had reaped the rewards for his success earlier this year, having won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award in January.

His success wasn’t limited to just ODI cricket. He has assembled an incredible resume in the other two forms of the game as well.

Earlier in the year, he scored 240 against South Africa, which is the highest-ever score recorded by a New Zealand player on his maiden Test century, and helped his side gain a first-ever Test series win against South Africa. He’s also featured in 14 of the 26 T20Is New Zealand played last season and scored an imperious 68 off 35 balls against Australia last month at the Sky Stadium in Wellington.
