All England Open Badminton: Lakshya Sen & Tanisha-Ashwini storm into pre-quarters, Rajawat crashes out

Lakshya and Tanisha-Ashwini have joined PV Sindhu and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the pre-quarters as the six remaining Indian players at the BWF Super 1000 event.

Lakshya Sen has kept India’s hope alive in the men’s singles after 7th seed HS Prannoy crashed out of the All England Open Badminton 2024 in the opening round. The former finalist made short work of Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen in their first meeting.

The 22-year-old needed just 40 minutes to breeze past the Johannesen 21-14 21-15 and move to the pre-quarters, where he’ll face another Dane in Anders Antonsen. Lakshya has a 1-3 record against Antonsen, losing their last three encounters after coming on top in their first-ever meeting in 2022.

The other matches of the day saw mixed results. Priyanshu Rajawat fell to Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. After a good first two games, Rajawat lost the plot in the third, winning just 9 points. Meanwhile, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa claimed an easy win over Hong Kong’s Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam. Up next for the top-ranked Indian women’s duo are Zheng Yu and Zhang Shuxian of China.
