‘Virat Kohli is biggest draw’: England legend shocked by India great’s potential T20 World Cup omission

With the T20 World Cup approaching, all eyes are on Virat Kohli and his potential role in the Indian team. Broad's comments reflect the wider belief that Kohli's experience and star power are invaluable assets.

Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has expressed disbelief at the possibility of Virat Kohli being excluded from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. These comments come after a report in The Telegraph suggested the star batsman’s inclusion is uncertain.

Stuart Broad: Virat Kohli a Huge Draw

Taking to social media, Stuart Broad highlighted the wider impact Virat Kohli presence has on the sport. “This can’t be true,” Stuart Broad wrote.

“From a fans’ point of view…Virat is the biggest draw of any player in the world,” he emphasized, particularly considering the high-profile India-Pakistan encounter scheduled for the USA leg of the tournament.

T20 World Cup and Virat Kohli uncertain selection

The T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the West Indies and USA, will be held from June 2nd to 29th. While Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has been confirmed by the BCCI, Kohli’s place in the squad remains under question. India’s lack of recent ICC trophies, with their last victory coming in the 2013 Champions Trophy, might be a factor influencing the selectors’ decisions.

Virat Kohli form

According to The Telegraph report, the selectors are concerned about Kohli’s recent T20 performances. However, they acknowledge that a strong showing in the upcoming IPL season could change their perspective. Kohli’s absence from the recent Test series against England was due to the birth of his second child.

Delicate decision and Ajit Agarkar role

The report suggests a tense atmosphere within the BCCI regarding Kohli’s selection. “It remains a very delicate matter,” an unnamed source is quoted as saying. The final call rests with the board’s selection committee, headed by former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar. Agarkar has reportedly held discussions with Kohli regarding the need to adapt his batting style to better suit the T20 format.

Will Virat Kohli make cut?

With the T20 World Cup approaching, all eyes are on Virat Kohli and his potential role in the Indian team. Broad’s comments reflect the wider belief that Kohli’s experience and star power are invaluable assets. Whether Virat Kohli can adapt his approach and convince the selectors of his T20 prowess remains to be seen.
