Team India could be looking at a few new fast-bowlers for future, after the culmination of the WPL 2024, and one of them is 16-year-old Gujarat Giants’ Shabnam Shakil. The pacer claimed 3/11 in the match against UP Warriorz on Monday, to dash their playoff qualification hopes, and take her team an eight-run win on Monday.
It was largely due to Shabnam’s efforts that UP were reduced to 35/5 in the 153-run chase. In fact, the youngster removed opposition skipper, Australia’s Alyssa Healy and Chamari Athapaththu in the first over itself, to give her team the edge.
She looked lethal with her deliveries swinging into the batters, who found it tough to put her away. By the end of her spell she managed to remove Shweta Sehrawat as well. Another thing that went in Shabnam’s favour was the height that she was bowling from.
Deepti Sharma’s Blinder Goes in Vain
However, Deepti Sharma played a blinder for her side, smashing 88 from 60 balls. Still, that was only enough for UP Warriorz to reach 144/5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Her partner Poonam Khemnar also scored 36 from 36 balls, as the team lost out on a qualification chance.
