The cat is out of the bag. India batsman Shubman Gill had maintained silence over what was discussed between him & fast bowler James Anderson, on the second day of the fifth Test in Dharamshala, but on Saturday, in an argument with Jonny Bairstow, he finally revealed what the conversation was all about.
Shubman Gill vs Jonny Bairstow
During England’s second innings, when Bairstow was batting to save his team from an innings defeat, he asked Gill, what did he tell Anderson. Here’s how the conversation went:
Bairstow: “What did you say to Jimmy about him retiring?”
Gill: “I told him he should retire.”
Bairstow: “And then he got you out next ball?”
Gill: “So what? How many times has…”
Bairstow: “I was just asking.”
Gill: “He can get me out after my 100.”
Bairstow: “100 per cent.”
Gill: “How many 100s [do you have] this series?”
Bairstow: “How many have you scored, full stop.?”
Playing in his 100 Test, Bairstow scored 39 in the second innings, getting out to Kuldeep Yadav eventually. Once again the English batting order failed to fire against the Indian spin-attack, with R Ashwin bagging five in his 100th Test.
