India Cricket Team’s Devdutt Padikkal is having his dream come true moment as he made his Test debut. To make it more merrier, he smashed his first-ever Test fifty in IND vs ENG 5th Test. After the day’s play at Dharamshala, the Karnataka batter reveals what went on in his head as he batted on debut.
Dreams, debut and nerves ft. Devdutt Padikkal
Padikkal reveals that he did feel nervous initially as he walked out to bat. Speaking on Jio Cinema, the batter says he channelized his nerves in a positive manner, allowing him to settle well. He admits that it was challenging at the start but he started to settle once he understood the pitch. Apart from scoring a fifty, Padikkal stitched a crucial partnership with Sarfaraz Khan, frustrating England further.
Padikkal also dives into the details of when he got to know about his debut. He reveals that he got to know about his inclusion a night before the game. While acknowledging that it was important to be prepared for the debut, he says that opportunities are rare and that he grabbed it and gave it his best.
Devdutt Padikkal’s dream debut
Devdutt Padikkal has shone brightly on his Test debut. The southpaw got his chance in the IND vs ENG 5th Test in Dharamshala in place of Rajat Patidar who missed the game with an injury. Batting in his first innings, he went on to hammer a graceful fifty to showcase his mark in the team.
After impressive knocks for India A, Padikkal got his place in the team after KL Rahul’s injury. On the other hand, when Rajat Patidar missed the final Test, it was Padikkal who got his chance to play his first Test match for India. He took 83 balls to reach his fifty.
